Born in Mexico City, Fernanda Sánchez-Paredes lives and works in Paris. She graduated from the School of Fine Arts and the National Autonomous University of Mexico before teaching image theory there for ten years. Her career as a photographer began in the Cuartoscuro agency, where she worked as a photojournalist. She later worked on the restoration of Gabriel Figueroa’s photographic archives. In 2006, she took part in the Young Creators programme, thanks to a grant from the National Fund for Culture and Arts of Mexico. She completed an artist’s residency at the Banff Centre in Canada in 2008, before continuing for a year at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 2010. Following this, she moved to France, where she developed her activity as a photographer. In 2017, she completed another artist’s residency at the Lycée Agricole de Chartres. In 2018, she is commissioned by the SIVOS and the DRAC Nouvelle Aquitaine to photograph the Pays Mélusin. Her work is the subject of an exhibition at the Rurart art centre in Poitiers and at Pollen in Monflanquin. She then completed an artist’s residency at Les Fours à Chaux, in the Swiss Jura. In 2020, the artist works in an artist’s residence in Haute-Bigorre, thanks to the DRAC Occitanie. Forty-two silver prints resulted, and were exhibited at the festival L’été photographique, at the Centre d’art et de Photographie in Lectoure.
