Julie Gaubert was born in 1996. She lives and works in Lille (France). From Marseille, she graduated from the École Supérieure d’Art du Nord Pas-de-Calais, site of Tourcoing in 2020.

Julie Gaubert is sensitive to the ways in which we make ourselves visible and heard, through various modes of existence. She enjoys thinking about our ways of expression and popular representation in various forms. Dedicated to actions in the public space, she situates her projects in a variety of social and political contexts.

“My work is situated on the edge of politics. I undertake, through gestures and actions, detour of objects and symbols attached to the social sphere. Bodies, the public, the crowd, the individual or the intimate are often present, despite their formal absence, in proposals intended to have different meanings of reading. A call to take sides, an effort of commitment. A formal and conceptual game is created between opposing notions, such as the multiple and the particular, the whole and the unique, the public and the private, the political and the personal, the collective and the individual. From there, I try to bring out ambivalences in order to question the social base on which our society is based. These reflections are for me a starting point to create different images or moments, challenging common sense with humor”.
